Josef Centeno, who opened Bacoshop at this prime corner location in Downtown Culver City, has transformed the space into Amacita, a more modern California take on his popular Tex-Mex restaurant Bar Ama in Downtown LA. Downtown Culver City's fortunes continue to change with news today of a mellow new neighbor called Wildchild landing later this year. Not to be confused with Culver City's existing WildCraft restaurant, Wildchild will offer a more cross-cultural, shared plates kind of perspective for evening diners, along with lots of open-air architecture and a full slate of cocktails. Greater Los Angeles's pizza moment continues with the surprise weekend opening of Roberta's at the Platform project in Culver City.

Fans of the forgotten Native Foods Cafe in Culver City can rejoice: there’s even more healthy eating on the way. Signage has now gone up for Primal Kitchen, a newcomer to the clean-eating market that promises “delicious, high quality, nutrient dense foods” in a sunny space that includes room for takeout as well as dining in. Akasha Richmond's AR Cucina plans on playing the hits, working a menu of familiar Italian favorites in the former Sambar space. The Italian eatery takes over where Sambar left off, and even carries much the same crew as the previous restaurant.
Chef Jordan Kahn, who was last cooking at Red Medicine before it closed in late 2014, is back on the scene, having quietly opened a Culver City neo-coffee shop called Destroyer this week. Loqui is the genesis of years of friendship between Wallace and Ampudia — and many trips to Baja and beyond. The duo have been dreaming up the restaurant, a smallish affair with simple seating and a limited menu of tacos and other Mexican favorites, for quite some time, even staging pop-ups together over the years up in San Francisco. Wallace was a longtime baker for Tartine, and as far back as 2013 he and Mexico City native Ampudia have been making tacos and other simple street snacks.
Culver City's Platform will be home to the first-ever retail endeavor by Bloomingdale's men's fashion director Josh Peskowitz, who's partnering with industry vets Christophe Desmaison and Simon Golby to create a store geared towards "well-informed American men". "The store will be stocked like a full, interchangeable wardrobe —Â€Â” lots of unstructured tailoring, plays on proportion, plays on pattern," Peskowitz explains to the site, "but it's about taking all those things and putting them together in a way that still feels like they're very polished."
Studio by Dark has arrived on Culver City Arts District's Washington Boulevard, adding to the low-key stretch's indie shopping options. The boutique offers lighting and accessories from Denmark, exclusive crystal and oil-infused candles by Ashen, pottery by local ceramicists Ben Medansky and Eunbi Cho, and textiles, art, and rugs by other local talents.
